The river Big Almatinka

Big Almatinka – river in Kazakstan, it is right tributary of the river Kaskelen. The river begins from the powerful glaciers. Length of the river is 96 km. The river has several different natural zones – mountain, plain and foothill. Mountains area consists of rocks, glaciers and permanent snow. There are alpine meadows, coniferous forest and greenwood. The river and its tributaries are in mudflow risk.

Downstrem of Big Almatinka is divided into several channels and flows into the Big Almaty Lake.  In 1980 on the river Big Almatinka was built forty-metre barrage against flood. Comprehensive measures are often held on the territory of the river Almatinka.
